Seeking Leaders: Board Vacancies for Appointed and Elected Directors

Wrestling Australia Ltd (WAL) is inviting applications from motivated and experienced professionals to join our Board of Directors as we enter a vital phase of governance renewal and strategic growth.
Following the guidelines in the WAL Board Search Statement, we are seeking expressions of interest for two key leadership roles: one Appointed Director and one Elected Director (Casual Vacancy).
The Opportunities
Appointed Director: A strategic role with a term of up to three years, focused on bringing specialized skills and capabilities to the Board.
Elected Director (Casual Vacancy): This position will fill a vacancy through the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November 2026, with the successful candidate eligible to stand for re-election at that time.

Wrestling Australia is a skills-based Board committed to robust governance, fiscal responsibility, and the development of the sport across all levels. We are looking for individuals who can provide constructive challenge and influence positive change.
Based on our current strategic priorities and the existing Board skills matrix, we are specifically looking for candidates with demonstrated strengths in:
- Corporate Governance
- Accounting and Financial Management
- Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Organisational Strategy
While experience in sport is not a prerequisite, a genuine willingness to understand the unique context and activities of our national sporting organisation is essential.
Commitment to Diversity
In accordance with the National Gender Equity Governance in Sports Policy, Wrestling Australia aims to reach a minimum of 50% female or gender-diverse representation by July 2027. We warmly welcome and encourage applications from female and gender-diverse candidates.
Key Details
- Nature of Role: Voluntary and unpaid.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 10 to 15 hours per month.
- Meeting Format: Bi-monthly via Microsoft Teams, with one to two face-to-face meetings annually.
- Eligibility: Please refer to the WAL Board Search Statement for full eligibility criteria, noting that current employees or officials of Member States are not eligible for appointment.
