Event Nomination Criteria

U17 World Championships (Amman, Jordan) – 19^th – 25^th August, 2024

U20 World Championships (Pontevedra, Spain) – 2^nd – 8^th September, 2024

Veterans World Championships (Porec, Croatia) – 7^th – 12^th October, 2024

U23 World Championships (Tirana, Albania) – 21^st – 27^th October, 2024

Seniors World Championships (Tirana, Albania) – 28^th – 31^st October, 2024

Competition Information

The 2024 World Wrestling Championships events will be held between the above listed dates and locations. The following age and weight classes will be contested at the 2024 World Wrestling Championship events:

Under 17 Males: 16-17 years of age (15 with medical and parental certificate)

Under 17 Female: 16-17 years of age (15 with medical and parental certificate)

• 36-40/43/46/49/53/57/61/65/69/73kgs

Under 20 Males Freestyle: 18-20 years (17 with medical and parental certificate)

• 57/61/65/70/74/79/86/92/97/125kgs

Under 20 Females: 18-20 years (17 with medical and parental certificate)

• 50/53/55/57/59/62/65/68/72/76kgs

Under 23 Males Freestyle: 19-23 (18 with medical and parental certificate)

• 57/61/65/70/74/79/86/92/97/125kgs

Under 23 Females: 19-23 (18 with medical and parental certificate)

Selection Process

All wrestlers that wish to be selected to attend the U17, U20, U23 or Veterans World Wrestling Championships must meet the following criteria:

• Be the highest ranked Australian athlete in their nominated age and weight class at the 2024 National Wrestling Championships in their respective age category
• Must place inside the top 3 athletes for the division

All wrestlers that wish to be selected to attend the Senior World Wrestling Championships must meet the following criteria:

• Compete at the 2024 National Wrestling Championships
• Place within the top 3 athletes for the division
• Attend the 2024 Senior World Championships Selection Trial (date and location TBD) where the first placed athlete will be selected.
• Participate in a minimum of 1 x National Program activity event (training camp)
  • This is excluding the June training camp held in Melbourne post 2024 Senior National Championships

Additional Information

Athletes must compete in the same age and weight class at both the 2024 National Wrestling Championships and the applicable World Wrestling Championships event.

The highest placed Australian athlete eligible for selection will be permitted to enter the event. Athletes required to attend the selection trial will follow the same protocol, where the highest placed Australian athlete will be selected to compete at the relevant event.

Should the highest placed Australian athlete for any reason not be able to attend the World Wrestling Championships competition, no other athlete will be selected for the division in their place.

All athletes need to be a member of Wrestling Australia at the time of the applicable World Wrestling Championship event.

All athletes must hold an Australian Passport to be able to apply for a 2024 United World Wrestling athlete licence or have completed the UWW athlete transfer process.

Costs

Attendance at all World Wrestling Championship events is self-funded; each participant will need to fund the following:

• Flights to and from the World Wrestling Championship event
• Accommodation at the competition – for the minimum required stay in accordance with the competition requirements (these stays will vary pending competition)
• 2024 United World Wrestling Licence
• Entry Fee
• Wrestling Australia Uniform (if required)
