Support the 2024 Olympic Wrestlers

Published Fri 05 Apr 2024

As you would all be aware, Australia have recently qualified two athletes (Jayden Lawrence and Georgii Okorokov) for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. This is a very exciting moment for Australian wrestling, having not had an athlete qualify since 2016.

Despite being one of the traditional Olympic sports, Wrestling Australia does not receive any high-performance funding, meaning our athletes preparation is on a self-funded basis. As a means of trying to offset these costs, our high-performance partners CombatAUS have setup an Australian Sports Foundation project to help support our Olympic athletes. All funds gathered through this donation portal will be managed by CombatAUS, as agreed to with WAL, with 100% of the funds raised being used to support our wrestling team over the next few months of activity.

Both Jayden and Georgii are scheduled to travel to Kazakhstan in the next month, where they will train and compete in the lead up to Paris. They will be supported by National Performance Lead Andrey Vorontsov.

We encourage you to please share this fundraising initiative among your local members, clubs, and the broader community to try and gain as much support as possible in assisting our athletes. Pre-set donation amounts are listed, but custom donation amounts can also be entered. Donations of over $2 ASF are also tax deductable, and a receipt for this is provided once the payment is processed.

We also acknowledge that the World Qualification Tournament is still to be held in early May, where there is still the potential to qualify more athletes for the Olympics. Should more athletes qualify for the Olympics, they will then also be included in this funding pool, and the details of the project adjusted to reflect this.
